DETAILING CHARACTERISTICS

MAKING THE DETAILS STAND OUT REQUIRES A GOOD SUPPORTING CAST

Fine photography is all about a singular subject. A simple concept, when done well, it can be utterly powerful, however, placing the entire photo's weight on one aspect, is a risky move that makes the picture all or nothing for the viewer. Being so, to increase both picture quality and photorealism, one should actively seek to surround its subject with enhancements such as bokeh, color, or vignette.

TIPS

- When detailing characteristics, look to use zoom rather than camera positioning, as that will make the photo more cohesive in addition

- When trying to detail a characteristic, pick one that is recognizable, such as a badge, or else the concept may be lost on the audience

DETAILING MATERIALS

MAKING THE DETAILS STAND OUT REQUIRES A GOOD SUPPORTING CAST

When detailing materials, the whole point of the photo is about making an item pop. This can be aided by characteristics such as bokehs or other environmental enhancements, or even other subjects, but the main emphasis should be on some aspect of the subject, such as the veins of carbon fiber, or the sheen of brushed metals. With this singular aim, a shot detailing materials is unique, but must have an intensive focus on creating quality to be the best it can.

TIPS

- Try and use pictures with a blurred surface, makes it easier to focus on the subject

- Use materials with defining surfaces, something like a flat plastic piece has a much harder time of being an interesting subject than a carbon wing
