The Driver Swap: Letting God Take Control

In modern endurance racing, the driver swap is a staple of the infamous multi-driver team. With events totaling 6, 12, or even 24 hours, race distances become too long for one driver to compete, and therefore form teams, made up for 2, 3, or even 4 to make the time more manageable. Sectioned off by a pit stop, one driver will come in and get out, giving way to their teammates part way through, letting their rested co-drivers share on-track responsibilities. This phenomenon then, mirrors not only the situation on track, but in our lives as well.

John 15:5 sums up our predicament beautifully when it states,
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
If you're like me, you too have been trying to run your enduro solo, as a one person team. Immeasurably exhausting, our racecars are slowing, several laps off the lead, leaking fluid, and clattering barriers. Like the endurance races, life isn't meant to be done on our own; for if we do, we'll never be on the podium God has for us. Just as an endurance racer has to come in and relinquish control to his teammates, we need to pull our lives into its pit box and give control to our flawless teammate, God.
If we relinquish control to our holy, omnipotent, omnipresent teammate, our race will take a radical turn.
"In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" Proverbs 3:6
With God at the wheel, we'll go from last to first, breaking the track record in the process, though it won't always be easy. We have to decide, as humans, whether we're going to stay in the car, lose the race, and lead an abysmal career, or if we're going to give Jesus the wheel and be unforgettable.

After all,
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps," Proverbs 16:9
